This year, over the summer holidays, I deleted Instagram off my phone. It was an interesting experience. Here’s what I discovered: My social media usage. Though I’m never up to date with the latest Tik Tok trend, my Snap Chat streak will always remain at a steady 0 and even WhatsApp statuses get my head in a spin, I am no a stranger to social media. My work background is in digital marketing, I’ve used social media throughout my time as a small business owner and I volunteer in the social media team for Parents for Future. Over...

Since the start of Contented Earth, my mantra has been: Eco Learn, Eco Hope, Eco Act. I want to help people learn more about environmental and climate issues, not despair, but feel hopeful, but also understand that we can only create hope through our actions. And underpinning those three 'columns' has been my desire to create a community of people who feels supported and inspired to take climate and environmental action. Ethical and Sustainable Living as ethically and sustainably as possible has always been one of my core values. So when I started The Contented Company (and Contented Earth especially), I wanted those values to be at the core of the business too. Whilst no-one can ever be perfect, making the best possible choice available at every decision is something I don’t take lightly – from choosing which products we stock, to how we handle your order, to how we get it to you, to how we try to have a positive impact on the world as a business. I’d love...
Climate Activism: without glue, paint or slow-marching

When you hear the words climate activism, the image that often springs to mind is a protest, often disruptive (though not violent) and with protestors being arrested - and often with members of the general public getting (understandably) frustrated and angry at the disruption caused. (📷 @just.stopoil) And although between 64%-75% of us are worried about the climate crisis[i], with this being the definition of climate activism, climate activism remains out of reach. Some may not agree with the tactics used. Some may not agree with the disruption caused. And many don't want to risk getting...

The distant memory of summer I don't know what the weather's like where you are, but here it's raining steadily and heavily, and our summer holiday seems like a distant memory - especially because we went early on in the school summer break. In terms of going on holiday, over the past few years, as we've come to fully understand the severity of the climate emergency, my husband and I have chosen to fly less and less*. (*side note: I am very much aware that to have the choice and the means to travel for pleasure is an utterly...
