On Friday 30thth of April Kate from Its Our Planet Too joined me for our last he Friday Lunchtime Live that I've done over Earth Month. Meet Kate and discover all about her business, what inspired her to take environmental action, what she's trying to do to restore our Earth (the theme of Earth Day 2021).
• Who you are and what does your business do?
It's Our Planet Too is a website aimed at children to raise awareness of the environment, including the plight of endangered animals. It’s essentially an education resource, full of fascinating facts, images, fun stuff to download and quotes as well as stories about the animals, written in rhyme. It’s eco fun for little people.
• How did you came to start an Eco business? What made you take action?
My ultimate aim is to develop a range of sustainably manufactured branded products for children, that will make the brand commercially viable and allow me to donate a percentage of the profits back to selected environmental charities.
At primary school and we had a mock election to coincide with a general election... I remember being the only child in my class to vote 'green', so I am guessing that eco-passion has been there a long time!
• What do you do / would you like to do more of in order to help ‘restore our earth’?
The majority of news messages that we consume regarding the state of our environment are truly overwhelming, so we need to concentrate on the bits we can control. Whilst we can’t change the fate of our planet on our own, when we come together, the impact can be huge.
• What’s your tip to feel less overwhelmed, but take more action?
My biggest tip would be to lead by example. Make it normal to say no to single-use plastic, remember to bring your reusable bottles and cups everywhere, recycle, get composting, enjoy nature... In my experience, kiddies love to do their part in helping our environment so by showing your little ones how it's done, they will very quickly get the picture. Making sustainable choices then becomes a way of life...
