A zero-waste lifestyle...
It seems like an almost impossible goal doesn't it? In my own efforts to move closer to zero waste, I often feel like Sisyphus - who was fated to roll an immense boulder up a hill only for it to roll down when he neared the top, repeating this for eternity.
The enormity of what we have to achieve is at times overwhelming. And it is.
Well... it can be. But it doesn't have to be... The easiest way you can start your own eco journey to zero waste is to just pick one thing.
One thing.
That's all. Don't be Sisyphus. Don't choose a whole boulder. Pick up one pebble and slowly, but surely walk up that hill too the top and put that pebble down. Yes, you'll stumble along the way. Yes, you'll drop the pebble. But you can pick it up, put it in your pocket and walk up that hill to the top. Don't beat yourself up, give up when you're not perfect - we're human after all. Just take a breath, make another resolution and try again. Then once you've made it up there, stop, congratulate yourself, celebrate. Then walk back down and pick up another pebble. And just keep going.
It makes a difference. It really does.
Look at this post. I LOVE this!
UK Distributor of Eco and Zero Waste products, A Fine Choice, recently celebrated their 8th year of trading. And that length of time has given owner Dani the ability to see the impact their company is making: 30,000 less plastic toothbrushes being used and 15,000 less plastic cotton buds.
So choose one thing. Today.
The next time you buy a toothbrush, don't buy a plastic-handled one, buy a bamboo toothbrush. Better still, buy it today, so that it's sitting in your bathroom cabinet, ready for when you need it.
Or stock up on some plastic-free bamboo cotton buds - fully compostable.
Or switch to a palm-oil free, plastic free solid shampoo? My family has just made this switch and we are LOVING our solid shampoo bar! It smells amazing and is so easy to use.
But don't get overwhelmed. Don't try to do too much at once. Just pick one thing (or maybe two), that you can easily switch in your life. We are all SO BUSY and juggling 1,001 balls - you don't need yet another thing to try to juggle. Pick one, an easy one, a small pebble.
And once you've made that one switch, know that you have made a difference. You have started on your eco journey to zero waste in the easiest possible way. (And maybe soon, you'll feel like picking up another pebble and marching up that hill again....?)
You can do it. We can do it.
Environmentally hopeful as always, and with love from our family to yours,
Elena x
